Main Street Coming Alive!

June 1, 2020 by Paul Kolimas

It was great to see Main Street in Galena operating more fully this weekend. Retail shops welcomed customers for the first time in weeks, and many restaurants set up outdoor eating areas. Restaurants also continued to do take-out and delivery.

It was kind of fun to see Main Street set up with a more “block party” feel to it. Vehicles are currently not allowed, so the streets and sidewalks had an open feel. Private parking behind Log Cabin is operating free of charge. We hope people looking for a break will find Galena as inviting and comfortable as ever!

Retail Stores to Open May 29th!

May 23, 2020 by Paul Kolimas

On Friday, May 29th, stores on Main Street will again be open in accordance with guidelines provided by the state of Illinois. This will be a great day for Galena and for our guests!

Customers will be expected to wear masks inside stores and adhere to social distancing. These measures will help keep people safer while also allowing Galena’s businesses to get started again.

Some restaurants are also pursuing the possibility of serving customers outside. As more information becomes available, both on restaurants and on retail stores, we will certainly pass it along!

Restaurants will still not be able to serve customers inside, but a great many are doing take-out and free delivery. The official list is at https://www.diningatadistance.com/galena-il

Grant

May 22, 2020 by Paul Kolimas

This weekend we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in serving their country. The History Channel will mark Memorial Day in part by beginning a three-part series called simply “Grant,” about Galena’s favorite son and hero of the Civil War. For those of you with a history bent, here is the official trailer. All the best for a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day!
